Ok so a quick question that I'm sure you guys/gals will be able to help me with (or at least guide me in the right direction :D)

So I have this avocado butter fixed oil and I was just wondering if I could use that in M&P. I was wondering if I could melt it in the microwave and stick it into the soap, if I did that then what would happen? Would it make the bar harder or softer? Would it make the bar go bad or would it make it even more moisturizing or should I just test this out?

thanks!,

You could add about 1 tsp, to 1 lb. of MP. Any more than that and you would loose bubbles and it would make your soap soft.

I have gone as high as 1 tbs per pound, but we do not recommend going over that. Soapbuddy is right... the more you add the softer the soap will be and the less lather it will have. Melt and Pour was really designed to be used 'as is' without any added oils. :D

As far as what else you can or can not add to it I stick with "If it can mold sitting out on your counter then it can mold in your MP soap"

As I am the type to not start a new topic unless I'm totally clueless, and the subject fits...

Kind of off-topic, but I've had someone ask me to make them an oatmeal milk honey bar. I have some goats milk soap off BB that I would like to add local honey to, but I am totally clueless as to how much I can add. I would imagine if I went overboard, you would end up sticky after a shower :!: I figured as I will NOT be adding fragrance (very sensitive skin type) I would substitute the .5oz of FO with honey... or am I totally comparing apples to oranges here?

Any help? I will be making about 1 pound of soap. Thanks in advance..! :D

So is it safe to say That for every ONE pound about ONE teaspoon of (whatever) Honey, Butters, etc would be safe.

Well, I have a similar question. If you can only use about 1tsp of Jojba oil, what happens if you want to also use Essential Oil in the same soap? I am making 1lb of M&P at a time to get a feel for what works.

Thanks,

Vanessa

I've had questions about this sort of thing, too. Is there ever a time when you need to add a preservative to MP soap? I know not to add fresh fruit or vegetables or fresh herbs to soap, but sometimes I like to add ground dry oats, dried herbs and spices, dry coffee grounds, raw honey.

I can just add these to the base and be done, right? I figure, since I can leave all of those out at room temperature and they don't mold or go rancid, the same would hold true in soap, yes?

Thanks for any advice!

Just as long as your are adding dry ingredients, you will be fine. Fresh fruit or veggies is a whole other story. They can definitely get moldy.
Soap should not need a preservative, due to it's high PH, but I wouldn't push it.

So honey is okay to add with no preservative?

Thanks, soapbuddy!
