I've been mixing my oil and lye at 110 degrees. What is the lowest you can go? I'm thinking the lower the temp. the better success with not burning the goat milk. :?:

110 degrees sounds correct.
I don't take temps. When the lye water and the oils pot is just warm to the touch, I'm good to go.

If it looks like trace, but the bucket isn't warm to the touch, I'm suspicious.

If you're new to the world of soapmaking, I would suggest getting a laser thermometer. They're easy to use and since you don't touch anything with it, they stay clean.

I have a question on the other side of the temperature issue. How hot is too hot to combine lye with oils? I stick to the 110's range but have seen recipes that say anywhere up to 125. What happens if the oils or lye are too hot. Curiosity is getting the better of me today!
