Ok, found this on Kathy Millers Hpage. This person added all the GM at light trace. Adding that much GM at light trace, it seems like it wouldn't come back to trace. What do you guys think? And then she added the honey at trace. With this recipe the GM wouldn't have a chance to burn if you didn't gel.

Oatmeal, Milk and Honey

48 ounces shortening (a 3# can)
18 ounces coconut oil
12 ounces soybean oil
10 ounces canola oil (olive can be used as well)
12 ounces lye crystals dissolved into 18 ounces cold water
One 12 oz. can of evaporated goat's milk added at light trace (for lighter colored soap with a firmer texture, you may use 6 oz. evaporated milk and increase the water to 22 oz.)
Temps: 95-100 degrees

Add at traceAdd at trace (Kathy):
2 ounces of "Oatmeal, Milk and Honey" FO
1 cup pulverized (blender) oats
1/4 cup honey

It actually looks fine to me - she's used way less water up front, to account for the milk being added at trace. The total amount of liquid is 24 oz, to 12 oz of lye, which is fine.

A note about honey - it does tend to turn the batch tan, so don't expect a white soap with this. I also have better luck with honey if I add a little water and warm it a bit. It's far more liquid that way, and it avoids the "speckles" of unmixed honey.

That said, it sounds nice - I like a lot of Kathy Miller's recipes, though I've never tried this specific one.

It looks ok to me too. I don't know how old this recipe is, but some shortenings now have a lot of cottonseed oils. That might change the soap a little bit.

I'll be sure to run it through a lye calculator first. Thanks!

Dixie4me thank you for posting that recipe. I had an earlier post about evaporated goats milk but no recipe to go along with it. I have been to the miller site but must have missed that one. I am so excited you posted one, I know what I'm doing today. yippee!
