Teach Soap

I have some leftover wilton gels and I was wondering if I could use them in CP soap? Thanks in advance.

I would like to try these too. Does anyone know?

I don't know about using them in soaps, but you can use them in bath bombs and bath salts. Coastal Scents has a tutorial video showing this.

hi lsg, yes, that's where I got these. I made some bath bombs with them, but have some leftover and wanted to use them in the soaps. I'm going to try and do this on Tuesday. I just made a batch of soap today & my mold is busy right now. Thanks for the response.

Yes you can, but be aware that the color might morph, due to the high PH of soap.

The Wilton gels are food coloring and probably won't be stable in CP.

Hi everyone. I'm new but I wanted to reply about the wilton food coloring. I've only made 4 batches of soap so I'm not very experienced, but, my first batch I used a real easy recipe and an 1/8th of a tsp. of the food coloring. Maybe that was too much for a 3 lb. batch of soap? The soap was fine but the coloring bled terribly! And it continued to get worse. Never seemed to stop bleeding. Two weeks in the soap turned soft and yellow and was still bleeding. I threw the whole batch out.
Would it have been ok in another two weeks? I don't know. You guys can probably answer that for me. All I know is that I don't want to try using the wilton colors again, it was that awful! Wish I had pictures to show you.
The other three batches are beautiful. I really don't think I did anything wrong with the first batch other than the coloring. And agian, maybe it was just too much color for the batch.

Thanks for the input dixie. I think I'll just keep the wilton colorants for the bath bombs. I purchased some liquid colorants today that I know will work great.

Straight FD&C colors will work in soap. I know, because I sell them and so does Anne-Marie. It's most likely all the other ingredients that are added to the color.

What exactly does FD&C stand for? Originally I was not going to color any of my soaps and leave them natural looking. After I tried a little color, I wanted to do more. I've used some clays and oxides. Some people are kinda weird about colors. Like they are being poisoned or something. Then I ask, "Well, what kind of soap are you using?" And of course it's commercial with all the lovely chemicals in them. Hmmm.....
