I emailed soapplace about the Life of the Party base you can get at craft stores such as Michaels and AC Moore. Their base contains SLS and SLES.

Oh my goodness... I had no idea what you were talking about so I googled SLS and eeeeew! I found an article that says: Shampoos are among the most frequently reported products to the FDA. Reports include eye irritation, scalp irritation, tangled hair, swelling of the hands, face and arms and split and fuzzy hair. The main cause of these problems is sodium lauryl sulfate.

I think I would rather have dirty hair!
It goes on to say that it may even be a cause of cancers and it can be absorbed through the skin! EEEK! Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention.
I bought some of that soap base and thought it was gross to work with anyway (smelled like paint!, feels gross, I don't like the look of it). I might just toss those bars! I'm even more excited to make a shampoo bar now CP method.

Thanks, I did some more research and found that too.

It does still amaze me all the stuff that is in products that we use ( and don't even get me started on food) that doesn't necessarily need to be there.
