That's pretty high! If you can't find it locally (which is also high in small amounts) you really shouldn't be paying any more than about $2.50/$2.75 per pound SHIPPING INCLUDED.

I don't know if he's still doing it, but the LyeGuy also gave a 10% discount for first orders. The lye and packaging from him was great. At that time, my cost was $2.58/lb with the shipping.

Maybe the best deal now is aaachemicals, they are having a 15% off sale.
I ordered from them a few days ago and my price was $2.95/lb with shipping (Phila.)

edited...I meant 2.50-3.00....don't know why I typed that 2.75 in my first post. LOL

I just checked out a website: www.essentialdepot.com. They have food grade lye, 8lbs for around $15, sale price. I have never ordered from them, but you might want to check it out. I have no idea what the shipping costs are. didn't go that far.

I did alot of searches for lye and ended up ordering from thelyeguy.com, he was great answered all my questions and I like the way it came packaged in small containers. I wasn't comfortable with having a large box of lye hanging around so for me this was great.
