Consistency, that is. At a useage rate of 1-1.5%, when making soap balls from the trimmings...it has a distinct chocolate chip cookie dough consistency. Without the chunks, of course.

The facts:

1-1.5% SL (two different experiments...they both feel like this)
Beeswax 2%
25% water

Soap = 48 hours old.

Normal? Soap without SL feels more...like Play-dough to me...

Thanks, Irena. I knew I could count on you!

Hey, those ones w/the beeswax flecks? I guess when things warmed up, everything kinda goozed together. In the log mold. The tray molds, I prevented gel (somewhat successfully) and they have a mottled appearance. I think I'm going to rebatch the molds...the coloring is giving me the heebie jeebies. Like rice pudding, or tapioca or something.

You're welcome.
Sounds like rebatch is the way to go. Since this batch is fresh, you should not need any extra water. What type of coloring did you use?

^^^It was honey almond oatmeal, used tea for the water...so the bar is a nice light tan color, but where the beeswax/oil flecks were, when things got going they kinda spread out, so instead of being a fleck, it's more like a not-tan ghosty looking spot. Here, there, everywhere! No zapping going on, but it just looks kinda not right...

One of these days I will upload photos of all this stuff I post about....!

Be aware that rebatched soaps might end up a little darker than the original.

I'm new to the forum and I'm very excited. I had a question concerning Oven Hot Process. I was looking at the tutorial and it said to use 0.25 oz of Sodium Lactate per ppo. I'm a bit confused. Does this mean in 16 oz of oil to use 4 oz of SL in my lye water mixture? I was looking to test this out this weekend but I'm stalled. Help!!

Thanks Soap Buddy. But I'm still confused because it seems that the tutorial for the Oven Hot Process by Adrienne Gidley is saying: ppo = parts per oz which would translate (to me) as saying 16 oz oils x 0.25 oz SL = 4 oz.

I don't want appear stubborn, but I very new to this process and my supplies are limited and I just wanted to be sure. I am grateful for a forum such as this that experienced soapers are willing to impart their knowledge. Thank you for being tolerant!

I've been making soap since 1969. If you add 4 oz. of SL to a 16 oz. batch of soap, the soap will most likely end up crumbly.
I take whatever I read in books with a grain of salt.
