Hi everyone. I am trying to file so I can collect sales tax in my state (NY) and I can't figure out which NAICS code I fall under. There are so many to choose from and on the website (registering online) I have to select from a drop down menu. I don't see anything about soaps, my choices are limited.

Considering I do MP but I don't sell from an actual store, I don't know if I am manufacturing or retail.

Thoughts? What code do you use? Any Nyers? Thanks in advance!

I would say retail if you sell your soaps to the general public via a web site or craft fairs.

Based on the options given in the drop down menu of the website (you can't just type in the numer of the code), I'm thinking about going with code 453998 for 'All other miscellaneous retail stores (including candle and trphy shops). Afteral, soap crafts are a lot like candle crafts. This makes sense right? Anyone else use this code?

It's either that or 446120 for cosmetics, beauty supplies and perfume stores.

I don't know about putting it as cosmetics. Don't they need some type of a testing of safety by the FDA?
