I don't know if this is the forum to put this or not, but I am having trouble finding lye. I went all over town and no one has it and they all said they couldn't get it. Where do I get this from?

there are lots of online places to buy it from! Like Brambleberry! lol

I've been lucky....my dad works with alot of chemical companies and he gets it for me by the 50 pound sack.

The cheapest place to get lye ( sodium hydroxide) in smaller amounts That means just a couple of lbs. is a hardware store like Lowes. Roebic Crystal Drain opener is sold in the chemical dept. or plumbing section for around 7.00. Thats more than buying it in bulk from a chemical company but cheaper than buying it online. I hear Tracter Supply sells it too. Call your local hardware stores and ask for Roebic Crystal Drain opener. Good luck

I had luck at my local Ace Hardware. The bigger stores like Lowes and Home Depot don't typically carry it.

If you end up finding it in the hardware store, make sure that it says 100% lye.

I went to Lowes and they said they don't carry it anymore. We went to Tractor Supply afterwards, and they don't carry it either. I also checked our local ACE hardware and they don't carry it. That's why I asked here. Where is the best online place to get it?

Have y'all heard of the lye guy? https://www.thelyeguy.com/store/store.php He has lye for $5.25 for 2 pounds. If you buy 5, the sixth one is free. This is the cheapest that I have found. He was linked through the About.com site.

If you can't buy it locally that *is* a pretty good price for small quantity, incl shipping. For me, however, it works out to the same price as ACE.

There are some stores that carry it but the employees just don't realize it.... it is with the drain cleaning supplies. Just make sure it is 100% lye with NO aluminum flakes!

No matter where you buy it, one thing to be aware of is the shipping cost. While the price might be good the shipping could be outrageous. So I found a local supplier that I can just drive to whose prices are a little higher than I have found online...but the savings in shipping is worth it for me. Good luck finding what you need!
