Hello everyone.
Recently, I've just obtained liability insurance for my business through the Handcrafted Soapmaker's Guild. One of the things I currently do, but now I can safely practice, is making soap with herbs to help others with ailments.
NOTE: Yes, I know I cannot legally claim any medicinal benefits by using my products; I can only state the benefits of the herb within the soap.
That being said, for those who have worked with extracts or powders, which form of an herb works best with cold process soap?
So far, I've been using powders infused with oil, but I want the herbs to have a more prominent presence within the soap.
My most successful soap batch was when I took Valerian Root and placed the powder itself (no infusion) in the soap. Once it was cured, both the herb and the smell of the herb (Valerian Root has a very distinct odor) were definitely more prominent that the infused oil. However, the dried herbs, though a powder, made for a bar that had a natural exfoliant texture to it, and I know not everyone wants that type of texture.
But I have yet to work with liquid extracts. I'm currently building up my supplies of essential oils.
