Hello Folks:

I would like input from as many people as possible as far as your recommendations for FOs and EOs that do not accelerate, rice or discolor.

I know about the attributes of BRV and I have heard that Coconut Lime Verbena does well.

All input on FOs and EOs is appreciated.

Thanks!

I wish I could say which ones truly behave, but that is not possible. It depends on the ingredients, the total recipe, the temperature and how much of the scent is used. Keep good notes, so if you have a fragrance that misbehaves you will know for next time. Some vendors do have this info.

What are some of the things that can contribute to better-behaving FOs and EOs?:

Higher percentage of soft oils?

Lower soaping temp?

Etc.?

Thanks.

Some fragrance oils will misbehave no matter what you do. Those are best used in hot process and added at the end.
A high % of soft oils will make for a soft soap.
Use a well balanced recipe and for those fragrances that give problems, try a stainless steel whisk.

As a new soapmaker who would loooovve to see a list of FO's/EO's that behave in soapmaking, gonna go out on a limb here with my few months of experience (lol) and say that iv'e never had any problems with Lavender EO's :P
(Although the very few lavender EO's that i have used - tend to fade away significantly after a few weeks)

Also used Spearmint Essential oil once before and also worked well, very strong scent though!!!
(The entire back room of the house smells of spearmint now...lol)

There isn't a list of FO's/EO's that behave in soapmaking, except on vendor sites that post their results or say the Scent is soap safe.
Even then, it really depends on the ingredients, the whole recipe, the amount of water you use, the lye strength and what temps you soap at.
It's a lot of trial and error. Keep good notes.

ahhhh i see.....darn... still, i'm noticing a trend of some essential oils/ fragrance oils that seem to be relatively safe, and some that i haven't used yet for the reason of being apparently are hard to work with --- such as clove and frangipani (even though a handmade frangipani soap i used was pretty much the starting idea that got me into soapmaking :D

I have found that Grass Stain and the Pear one are great. Colorless, no speeding up and actually can be smelled in the soap. That is just my experience. Good luck and if you come across any that do not fade in cp, please let me know.
