Teach Soap

I had someone ask me for a vanilla-lavender soap today. CP, of course. Using vanilla co2 is pretty much cost-prohibitive, but I noticed Essential Wholesale is selling a vanilla butter. Anybody have suggestions or recommendations?
Of course there is the temptation to use BB's vanilla fragrance oil, but i see that as a compromise to the integrity of my soaps, altho it looks like a good quality phthalate-free product so far as synthetic chemicals go for those who like that sort of thing.

I have no experience using the vanilla butter, but have you ever considered using a vanilla bean infused oil or water? You could soak vanilla beans in your oil or water for a set amount of time until it is nice and scenty.

It might not be cost effective, but I know that in the baking and cooking world vanilla bean infused sugars and oils are very effective. It would make a unique bar of natural soap for sure and you could charge your customer accordingly. I love a good experiment!

Most butters like this are hydrogenated vegetable oils with some vanilla added. Whether the vanilla is real or a fragrance I don't know.
Have you tried Vanilla oleoresin?

That's the ticket. Vanilla oleoresin. Thanks, SB. Can you recommend a supplier and/or give me usage rates? Bulk Apothecary is selling a x10 Vanilla oleoresin, that's my best thought so far. I've never ordered from them but since BB stopped selling the strongly scented cocoa butter for my chocolate soaps I've been meaning to place an order with them anyway...

Essential Wholesale can pretty much be counted on not to use stuff like hydrogenated vegetable oil. It's made of coconut n palm kernel oil plus vanilla beans. They prob did exactly what brightbox suggested, soaked the beans in the oils and called it a vanilla butter. Your recommendation much better.

Plant Therapy carries Vanilla oleoresin. So does New Directions Aromatics. I haven't checked their prices, so I don't know how they compare.
I have bought ingredients with both of these companies with no problems.
Oil (or butter) that's just infused with vanilla beans won't carry much of the scent through in soap.
Vanilla oleoresin I've used at 0.2 - 0.3 oz. per lb. of oils.
