Teach Soap

This has been a terrible afternoon. Every time I try my molds leak. The first on was a pillar 2 2/4 x 6. I used a zinc core wick with the sealer or putty covering the wick. Thankfully i have learned to set my molds in a pie pan. Saved the wax, tried sealing it again, still leaked. Tried making a circle of the wick then sealing it. Finally gave up, poured all the wax in a pie pan to make chunks later. Got another mold, used some cotton wick I had her, even put a dab of the sealer inside over the hole around the wick and also on the outside. It started to leak so I grabbed some of those pastic ice cube things and put them around the bottom so the wax would firm and make a seal that way.My methods worked the last time I made a batch of candles. I need help. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this would help you, but I have used modeling clay from a craft store instead.

Thank you. It is worth a try and probably cost less.

Are you cleaning the mold with rubbing alcohol before use? Re-using sealer? Using enough sealer? I've only ever had a mold leak once, and it was because I didn't clean the mold in between and wax residue stopped the sealer from making a good seal.

Hestey, I just got back from vacation and saw your reply. No, I haven't been cleaning with alcohol because I hadn't read anywhere that told me to. I am learning by reading books and online. Makes sense to clean it. I also bought some modeling clay before I left so I am ready to try both suggestions.

Modelling clay will help you to seal the leak of mold.
May be your mold have some wax inside that stopped the sealer to make a good seal.

I also use modeling clay from a craft store.
