Teach Soap

I have tried making soap with titanium dioxide I have tried adding it in the oil before adding the lye, and I have tried it after I get the batter to light trace but either way the mixture seems to curdle

I am also adding my additive (in this instance lavender essential oil)

What am I doing wrong as when i watch the tutorials the batter still seems runny not lumpy

Do you first dissolve your TD in a small amount of water? I always add TD right after i have added my lye water and given it a good stir and I have never had a problem with curdling. I am not sure if there are more kinds of TD - mine seems to be water soluble and I have never tried adding it to oils as a powder so can't answer that.

There are two types of TD - an oil soluble and a water soluble. If you aren't sure which one you have you can check with your supplier. If you have water soluble, it should disperse easily when mixed with water. The oil soluble kind will just kind of clump in water. Sometimes one of those mini frother things will make it easier to mix. I use water soluble and mix it right into my lye water.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Mine mixes with oil and that mixes fine, when i add it to the main batter mix that is when the whole batter seems to curdle. should i mix this in with a spoon? i continue to use the stick blender

Run your finger under water with some of the TD on it. If it washes away clean it's water soluble. If it stays, it's oil soluble.
