Soapylove, my fiancee and I love your popsickle soaps. The red, white, and blue blaster one reminds me of a popsickle I used to eat when I was younger and the neopolitan one looks real enough to eat. I don't really have a dirty mouth, but if I did, those are the soaps I'd want to wash it out with.

I can't believe you've been doing this formally for only 3 years, your work is SOOOO amazingly beautiful, original and creative. I think this March marks year 4 for PJ Soaps as an official business, but I'd been making soap since October of 2003. When did you start playing around and experimenting with soapmaking, and what made you decide to move from hobby to a formal business?

The soaping world is so much cooler with you in it!

It's been an action packed 3 years for sure.
Paula - thanks for your very nice compliments!! I'm so glad that we got to meet personally last summer. It was such a treat! To answer your questions...

I started playing around with soapmaking when I was pregnant with Sequoia, so that was 4 years ago. I opened Soapylove about 9 months later, but still had so much to learn! For example, one of the soaps that got a lot of people's attention was this soapsicle which you may have seen in the Teach Soap gallery:



As many of you know, these gorgeous glassy colors are extremely unstable and bleed together pretty fast. Unfortunately, I was making and selling them so fast I didn't realize this until they were in many customers' hands!

So unfortunately I was learning on the job. I think I've worked out most of the kinks now, though! LOL!

I decided to make it a formal job once there was a steady demand for my soaps and I was completely 100% burned out on my former career, fashion design. It was my way out. Not to say I was looking for just any way to leave my 9-5 job - I was (and am) totally obsessed and passionate about m&p soap crafting. I am SO happy I can do this "full time!"
