Teach Soap

Hi everyone. So I made my first batch of cp soap with these oils and additives:
300 g coconut oil
300 g palm oil
400 g canola oil
70 g chocomalt powder
I superfatted it at 5%. I used a wire whisk to mix the lye and the oils because a stick blender is not available in any store near me. I was able to get a true trace after 45 minutes of rigorous stirring. I did not let it go through a gel phase. After 24 hours, the soap had set but it had a huge pool of oil on top of it. I was hoping it will reabsorb but after 4 weeks of curing it did not. I ended up with oily soap. I figured it would still be usable but when I used it on my body, my skin began itching like crazy. It was not lye heavy because I did a tongue test and there was no zap. What do you think happened? Should I change my recipe? Please help. More power.

You really need a stick blend to properly emulsify all the ingredients.
It sounds like not all of the oils interacted with your lye.
I prefer not to gel myself, but I don't get an oil pool on my soap.

If the oils didn't reabsorb during cure, it's likely that your superfat is considerably less than what was in your original recipe. That could account for the soap being more drying (even if it isn't lye heavy) and could cause your skin to itch. If I use more than 15% coconut oil in my soap it makes my skin feel dry and itchy, so that could also be part of the problem.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I have tried both the whisk method and the stick blender method. To properly blend the oils you will at least need a mixer. I had the same problem until I started using my electric mixer. Just doing it by hand won't work.

Stick blender is better then a hand mixer as it won't whip so many bubbles into the batch.
