Hello All, I am a very excited newbie. I've made three batches of soap so far! My question is about the shampoo bar I've made from the recipe in The Natural Soap Makers Companion. The texture is kind of crumbly, but the cabbage lye test came out fine. So I tried it out and found it very drying to my hair, much like the first time I used vinegar instead of shampoo. Any suggestions? Is there an easy methods of copying the recipe from my Brambleberry lye calculator?
Thank you in advance,
Jane

How much did you superfat? The cabbage test will only give you a range. It won't tell you anything else. I would run the recipe that you used through a lye calculator.

Hi Irena,
Thank you for responding. I did use the lye calculator and the superfatting is 10%. Maybe the soap will change over the next few weeks? I made this on January 13.

I can't use a handmade soap as a shampoo bar. I have thin, blonde, long hair. Using a shampoo bar make my hair rough and it felt like straw, even with a vinegar rinse.

I bought a handmade shampoo bar a few years ago when I was visiting the Seattle area. It was wonderful for my long naturally messy hair. If this batch doesn't improve in time, I'll go back to buying online from the lovely soap maker who inspired me!
