I have heard about this countertop oil distiller (It also can distill alcohol and water). It's about $250 Canadian.

There is a link to the one I'd like. Anyway, I can't seem to find ANY information on how to use it for making essential oils, other than cannabis oil, and I'm not being cool, but I have no interest in making cannabis oil, because I don't smoke it, and I don't like the smell. lol.

Anyway, I was wondering if ANYONE makes their own essential oils (Not infused oils), and if they know much about it. I contacted the company that makes the distiller, and they said each item can take a different temperature, for example orange oil should be distilled differently than pine needle oil. WHAT? Why? Why does no one on the internet talk of this? I want to purchase this item, if it will make my life easier, and then I could also KNOW that my oils are pure. (Within reason).

What does everyone think? Is it a waste of money? Does anyone own and use one? Any ideas, even if you own a more scientific/laboratory type distiller?

I distill essential oils. I have an ancient (by American standards, lol) electric distillers that distills about a two liters of water and a 50 gallon one. Unless you have easy access to a fairly massive amount of plant material it isn't something that is worth it. Unless you NEED in your soul to distill plants into hydrosols and essential oils.

In looking at the one you linked to and with out knowing ANYTHING about the company. It says it distills tinctures. Medicinal tinctures don't generally work like that. I would consider a different one.

However I like that they say this "Another thing we get asked is about the legalities of producing Alcohol, Plant Extracts, Herbal Tinctures and Medical Marijuana Oils... these are local issues and one should familiarize oneself with what pertains to you in your area regardless of how ridiculous and archaic they may seem."

That makes me laugh.

To build your own still is no problem, even with kitchen stuff you can get a good result. A laboratory flask is not a good idea because the flask is too narrow, parts of the steam will condense on the inside wall, resulting in losses of quality and amount. Distilling about 500 g lavender you get 20 ml essential oil. The best book for distilling essential oils at home: The Essential Oil Maker's Handbook, Spikehorn Press.

I have thought about making my own essential oils with the help of the many instructional articles and videos online but I'm quite hesitant because I'm afraid that I might get it wrong or I won't get the desired results. So what I do is I just buy what I need from Healing Solutions.
