Hi guys,

I just started using 1/2 milk/water in my cp soaps and I realise that the soaps are coming out a lot softer. Will it get harder as the weeks go by or will it remain a soft bar?

p.s. I really like it, but it does not last long.

It depends what your recipe is, if it's full fat milk and how much you are supperfatting.

I started using 8 because my skin is very sensitive and dries up with the use of normal soap

If you use soft oils, are superfatting at 8% and use full fat milk; then yes, your soap will be soft for a long time.

I only make small batches so:

Olive-16oz
Palm-5oz
Coconut-5oz

The balance of the recipe was oat, wheat, milk & honey (no fragrance)

This will take quite a while to harden up. Do you use Stearic Acid or Sodium Lactate? Or you could use 1 tsp salt PPO. Do you use full water\milk in your recipe? You might try a water discount. Do you refrigerate after you pour or does it go on the shelf insulated with towel or do you process this in the oven. There are ways to sorta help...but with OO being higher than the solid oils, this will take longer to cure (dry).

I don't do any of these but the milk I used was full fat milk and water (1/2 each). I then shelf insulate with a towel.

I thought that using more OO was better for your skin as too much coconut would dry your skin out?

Using OO is very good for your skin...but it also makes for a very soft bar of soap that will not last long. But there are a few things to do to get around this.
To help harden the soap, you can use
Salt - 1 tsp PPO
Stearic Acid - .25 to .50 PPO
Sodium Lactate - hardens very well, I use .25 to .35 PPO
To help W/lather, Sugar, 2 TBSP PPO, measure out your water or milk, then take a little out and warm it, mix sugar in warm liquid and dissolve completely.Add to your lye water right before you add to your oils.
Castor, and you don't have to use only 5%.

Play time!
