Teach Soap

Hello Everyone!

I am pretty new to soap making.

I been using the goat milk base and i looked up some recipes from pinterest.

I tried peppermint and Cinnamon spice and neither soaps give any scent onto the skin at all.

What am i doing wrong? I am doing it exactly like the instructions but no success.

Where did the fragrances come from? Are they skin safe? How much are you using and are you going by weight or at least ml's?

Also remember that soap is a wash off product so scent retention on the skin won't be the same as if using a lotion, etc.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Just guessing here but you might (I would try this if my goal was to have the scent stay on my skin) try adding a small percentage of some melted butter to the soap - 5-8%?. It won't make it too soft because it's a "hard oil" and it should technically leave more - mmm there's a name for it - stuff that stay's on your skin - while the last person to comment pointed out soap washes off - oh what's the word - shoot. Anyway I find that with CP that the scent stays on your skin better and I think it's because there is a higher percentage on non-saponified oils in it than in M n P. Also if you look at the ingredients in M n P (most of them anyway) they have things like SLeS and other types of surfectants (cleansers) in addition to what makes soap - oils and lye. So that you're getting something that REALLY washes off.

Another way to go would be to add a humectant - glycerine 2-5%. Humectants attract moisture to your skin so that it would stand to reason that since this doesn't wash off (actually not sure if glycerine washes off but there are other humectants that don't - sodium lactate washes off but I think honeyquat doesn't and there are lots of others) that it will hold some of that fragrance on your skin.

Anyway, something to consider if your goal is to leave your skin scented using M n P soap.

Adding butter to a MP base and you could loose bubbles, depending how much you add. 5-8% butter would be too much.
Adding glycerin to MP soap can make it sticky.
