Teach Soap

I've been looking at some wonderful designs on top of cp soap lately which I would like to try but I was wondering how they are covered to prevent ash from forming on top?

try covering with cling flim (but don't let it touch)

Are you speaking of textured tops like cake frosting? I do many like that, I just let them gel in a warm oven without anything on top. As soon as the soap gels, I spritz with rubbing alcohol to prevent ash. Works 99.9% of the time.

Thanks pixiefeet, I tried the cling film but it got sweaty and dripped water onto the soap oh and the cat decided the soap would be a wonderful thing to snuggle up to, I got a cat print on the top through the cling film lol.

jbren, i'm not sure if it's the same as the frosting, it's where you make it look nice on top using a whisk or other utensil before it starts to set up. That's really interesting about the oven, how warm is warm? last time I tried something in the oven my mold melted lol, oops! guess it wasn't oven friendly hehe.

Would a piece of cardboard help if I layed it over the top but so not to touch the soap?
If I put it into the fridge and not let it gel will it still get soda ash if its uncovered (never tried the fridge thing yet).

lol i'm such a nut, I got so excited with the replies that I completly missed the link (nice soaps by the way) yep that's exactly what I was meaning, i've never heard about it done that way, does the oven speed up the gelling process? oh does it matter if my oven is fan forced?

some soaps I leave in the oven at 170F for an hour. Some, like the one in the picture, I only put in a warm oven that has been turned off as I am afraid of losing the effect on top...which has happened before.

and yes, the warmth of the oven will speed the gel in most cases!
