Teach Soap

I did yesterday - a blend I made myself of clove, cinnamon, lemon and rosemary EOs - and it almost instantly riced on me than seized up within a few minutes. It also got really hot. I added the blend at about 110ish degrees and it shot up to 175ish within a minute or two. I'm guessing it must be the clove oil as I've used the other 3 in other CP soaps with nary a problem. I'm just curious if anyone else has seen this problem with this blend or clove EO. Damn shame too because I love the smell of this blend. Mebbe I'll try a rebatch with this and see what the haps is.

Cinnamon and clove EOs are both known to cause problems with heating up. What you can do is let it gel in the pot and treat it like HP. It's a great way to salvage a batch.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Clove can accelerate trace or make your soap seize. If that happens, let it. Then let it go into gel right in the pot. You won't be able to swirl, put you can save the batch. After it fully gels in the pot, stir well, then glop into your mold. Be very careful with using clove oil. In small amounts it's ok, but use more and it can be irritating to the skin.

I use clove and cinnamon both in blends at a really small percentage and they both have caused heating for me, though not ricing.
