I am going to try rebatching very soon and would like to make mine with coconut milk added as the liquid. Most of the suggestions I've read recommend using a tablespoon of liquid to a pound of shredded soap, but the following suggesting mentions using a cup. I wondered how much I need to use. Does letting it stand overnight (as in this suggestion) make a difference in the amount of liquid?

"Take a pound of shredded rebatch soap, put in an oven safe bowl, non aluminum, pour a cup of liquid over it, stir it up good and let stand covered over night.

Next day stir again, cover with foil and put in oven at 200 degrees for about 90 minutes, it will be nicely liquid.

Blend in your fragrance, color, botanicals, and pour in molds, let stand 24 hours, then freeze, they will pop right out of the molds, then let dry for a few days to a couple of weeks and they will be as hard as the original cold process soap, works great!"

I had a similar question. Last night I watched a video of a lady rebatching. She used 1/2 cup of goats milk to 1lb of soap. Cooked it in a crock pot for an hour then stick blended it. It came out very creamy, not mashed potato like at all. It was nice and hard within 5 days. Has anyone else done rebatching this way and were you successful with it?

A pound of shredded soap for rebatch with a cup of liquid will take a VERY long time to harden.

My first time rebatching I tried the recipe above with a cup of liquid per lb of soap. It took MONTHS to harden. And even then it was still a bit compressible. I stuck it on a shelf and would occasionally try a bar in the shower and it had a thin weak lather in the early months. Only this past month, a year later, has it turned into a nice hard soap with decent lather. Stick with a very small amount of liquid unless you are patient about waiting for a good soap. :)
