Teach Soap

I used activated charcoal for the first time to try and achieve black. Used approximately 1/2 teaspoon per pound of oils. The batter looked nice and dark, but quickly faded to medium gray once in the mold. Its not a bad gray, but not what I expected given how dark the batter was. The soap did NOT gel.

Does gelling affect the vibrancy of color - the lack of it causing a more mellow color? Or was it simply not using enough?

I haven't used activated charcoal, but "generally speaking" gelled soap colors are more vibrant/darker and ungelled colors are softer and muted.
