Hello!

I am new to the soap making world. I have spent a few months researching online and have recently been on a soap making course.

Whilst on the course, I made soap with a few different bases. They have only been sat hardening (after they had gelled) for a week, so I can't really see how they compare to each other yet.

I am interesting in creating a hard bar, with a nice lather, that is moisturising. (The dream right?!)

I have been looking through the oil properties and have come up with a recipe. I would be really grateful if anyone could cast their eye over it and tell me any pros / cons that it may have.

Olive oil/coco oil/Shea butter/coco butter/jojoba oil

60/15/12/12/1

Thanks in advance and thanks for all the help on here already!

NewBubbles x

Make a small batch and see how you like it. Technically, soap is not moisturizing. What it does is cleans gently, without stripping the skin of moisture. I would add some castor to your recipe for the bubbles.

Thank you for your advice.

On the course the total amount of oils for each batch was 1200g (48oz) . Has anyone tested recipes with a smaller total?

I do 16 oz batches to test new recipes so I don't waste oils if I don't like it. :D

Great thank you :) I can really play about with my recipe without wasting too much!

I have three different soaps hardening at the moment - they are just over a week old. I understand the 4-6 week wait, but would I see the difference between them if I used them sooner? They are all gelled.

Thanks again!

Any handmade soap benefits from a full cure of 4-6 weeks. Besides the soap getting harder, the pH changes slightly lower, making the soap a gentler bar.

Thanks Jman - I have now had many hours playing around with the soap calculator you showed me. :D

Refined vs unrefined - is there a huge difference in how the finished soap acts? I understand it will maybe smell and look different - but how about the feel?

Most of my soaps are of basic hardness and are waxy with good lather. I am wanting to get a more creamy bar of soap. Anyone have a good basic recipe to soften up my soaps.

You don't need both shea and cocoa butter. Try just one or the other.
