I got a new tray mold that I wanted to try out, but my recipe seized when I added the fragrance. I had to wait it out until it started to gel, and then I spread it in the tray mold. It continued to overheat and I knew it would not turn out well. I tried to push it into the mold but there were a lot of air pockets and the top of the soap had a bumpy appearance which would split and spill out lava hot soap.

I cut the bars after 2 days and the very top was crumbly, so I thought I'd let them dry for a week and see if any part of the bars could be salvaged. Unfortunately, when I tried to clean them up today, they are so crumbly large chunks would fall off in my hand.

My question: Can I rebatch this soap or is it a loss because it overheated? It's still soft and I was able to mush it between my fingers. If it won't make a good bath soap anymore, is there anything else I can do with it? I hate to waste it, it's about 6 lbs of soap, and it smells really good!

I would definitely try rebatching it. The next time you have a soap heat up like that, just dump it all back in your pot and treat it like hot process. :D

Looking back, I should have just thrown it back in the pot, but I was so mad at it I wanted to force it to do what I had originally intended! I already had three different colors mixed for a swirl and I knew it would be so ugly if I threw it all together. I'm trying to think of how to make it look nice if I rebatch. It's probably going to be a pinkish peach color, and the scent is a blend I made that smells like sweet berries to me, my son says it smells like gummy bears or candy. It was going to be a valentines day soap.

Depending on the size of the batch, sometimes it's best to move on and get rid of it. I've had a batch once that seriously overheated and rebatch didn't help.

I know, I almost don't even want to mess with it any further, but this is really putting me off schedule because I wanted to have soap ready for Valentines Day. If it was a small batch I would probably toss it, but it is 6 lbs. I'm almost out of OO and the oil I recently ordered is on back order so I don't even know when I'm going to get it. I'm probably going to toss it in the crock pot in the morning, add a little more pink color, maybe some cranberry seeds, and hope that it's not a big waste of time.

If it doesn't work out, do you think I could grate it up later and use it for laundry soap? It was sf at 7%.

Darn. It's in the crock pot now, so I'll see what happens.

Out of curiousity, what's the fragrance and what's your recipe?

My recipe was Goat Milk, Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Palm Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, & Tussah Silk.
I used Titanium dioxide, Pearly White Mica, Merlot Mica, (Red) Iron Oxide, and some neon pink dye powder to make 4 different colors.
The fragrance was a blend I made with 4 different berry type FO's: Pomegranate, Raspberry, Wild Berry Scone, and Cranberry

I realized when looking over my recipe that I forgot to increase my water which I usually do if I'm trying to do a multi color swirl. But still it was 34% of the oil weight.

Anyway, it rebatched and I got it into a large loaf mold. It looks better as a darker pink and with some cranberry seeds. I couldn't do a nice top on it, so I decided to try something different and stuck multi-color sprinkles to the top using a goat milk MP that I poured over to adhere them. My husband says it looks like a piece of frosted bundt cake. I can live with that.
