Hi Folks:

I have questions about using goat milk.

Is there a difference in the results when using real goat milk vs. goat milk powder?

When using real goat milk, do you discount your water in a 1:1 ratio with the milk, freeze the goat milk and slowly add the lye?

How do you use goat milk powder? When do you add it? How much? Any water discounting?

From what I understand, the powder has less natural fat then fresh. I haven't seen much difference in the final soap.
When I use real goat milk, I freeze it til it gets slushy, then slowly add the lye. Keep stirring so the milk doesn't scorch.
The milk can get thick, so don't panic.
Another way to add fresh milk is use minimum water to dissolve the lye, then add the rest of the liquid as milk.
I don't do 1:1 solution as my lye won't completely dissolve in such a strong lye solution.
For GM powder, mix it with water til smooth and thick. You can add this as soon as your lye water and oils are mixed.
You won't need much water to make a GM slurry. I don't discount my water in this case.

I freeze my GM solid in 1, 2, & 4 oz cubes so I can easily just grab what I need. I then use that straight from the freezer and slowly - I'm talking like over a period of about 5 minutes - sprinkle the lye over it with stirring. My GM hardly ever discolors unless I want it to then I just pour my lye in a bit quicker.

Irena, does the slurry-temp GM yellow at all when adding your lye?

I have never used powdered so have no input to add there.
