Teach Soap

How many times can the CP melt and pour be melted? Has anyone used this CP base yet? I have everything needed to do my own CP soaps but I want to use up the M/P CP soap first. I am wanting to add finely ground oats and possibly dried Calendula upon the first melting. I would like to let it harden and then use a cheese grater and partially melt everything down, then pack it tight in some PVC. I will add fragrance, but no color. Is it good to go to melt down one time to add my ingredients, cool and harden, and then partially melt down again? I'm hoping to get a rough and natural look to my soap.

If this is MP and not CP, melting twice should be ok. Just make sure you don't overheat.

If this is CP, when you rebatch, mor of the soap's water will evaporate, which could make the soap brittle when it dries.

The 'Like Cold Process' Melt and Pour is still Melt and Pour. It has less glycerin in it to cut down on the swetting, but other than that it behaves and should be used just like any other Melt and Pour base.

The ground oats and Calendula will get brown and soggy after a few days.
Melting twice is okay - just keep the soap covered when melting.

Thank you for the input. I will probably just save the Calendula for a bath tea and maybe infuse into an oil for a CP soap in the future. I'll have to figure another way to get the Aveena into the soap.

I melt my MP soap over and over. As long as it hasn't boiled and you've covered each time you melt, it keeps its properties pretty well. After three or four melts, it's not "good as new" but it's close =)

The bulk melt and pour bases at the top of the page have SLS added for lather.

The 'Bramble Berry Bases' that are below those do not have any SLS added.

The two Stephenson bases at the bottom of that page have SLES, a close relative of SLS.
