Teach Soap

Can you believe that a soaper can soap for years without doing a goat's milk batch? Well, I'm proof of this oddity! Last week I made an unscented goat's milk soap to prep for the coming cold months of dry skin. These bars are curing in the laundry room but I keep noticing these little crystals on the outside. Are these undissolved lye bits? (I saw a video where a soaper strained her soap mixture to omit any undissolved lye bits but I only saw this video after I soaped this batch). I've touched my tongue to them and nothing happens except that my mouth tastes soapy. Help!?

I tried to upload a picture but I could not reduce my photo to the site's acceptable size and still let you see the soap clearly. 25 KiB is way too small!

Are they actual white spots or are they crystals? Here are some thoughts; palm oil has a lot of stearic acid, so it needs to be melted at a higher temp. Unless it's hydrogenated palm, it needs to be melted and stirred each time to incorporate the stearic acid. Stearic acid in palm oil can settle to the bottom of the container and it can give you those white spots you're talking about.
If this soap was done as an HP, those spots could be from cooked soap that cooked faster from the sides of the crock pot.
The spots could also be from a not well mixed batch or from the milk.

I appreciate your explanation of the palm oils.

I don't know how to accurately describe these spots. They're not exactly crystals but they are raised from the surface of the soap. They can be chipped away but a white recess remains.

I've had soda ash a ton of times but it's usually all over the exposed surface, not in little spots. Is it possible to come in spots???

Did you use titanium dioxide? Sometimes I'll get some unincorporated flecks of that on/in my bars if I didn't restir it or it didn't dissolve all the way.

No, no TD in this batch. But boy have had I those spots you're talking about, momsoaps!
