Hi everyone. I just made my first batch of soap and I'm not exactly sure if I have a problem or not. I made the soap about a week ago and it still feels very soft to the touch. It took me a while to get it out of the mold, which made me a little upset. Another thing that happened was that the colors I used faded considerably from the initial color of the soap. I made the soap using coconut milk.

Will the soap harden with time? Will the colors come back to be darker?

Any ideas are welcome!

Welcome!
What was your recipe? Did you run it through a lye calculator? How much did you superfat?

Hi Irene,

My recipe called for:
9.5 oz coconut oil
12.7 oz olive oil
1.59 oz castor oil
7.94 oz palm oil
12.06 oz coconut milk
4.6 oz lye
I added white mica, yellow oxide, cocoa power as colors and a little of fragance oil.

It has been over a week now and the soap is still very soft. I cut some of the bars in the middle and noticed that the color is becoming more intense now thant it was a week ago. I hope that it hardnes once the curing process is over.
what do you think?
Thanks for replying.

4.6 ozs. of lye is only 4% superfat. I would change that to 4.45 ozs.
12.06 ozs. of coconut milk is the max liquid for this recipe. You could have used less, like 10 ozs.
Since ungelled soaps take longer to get harder, I would give this batch more time.
What was the exact amount of fragrance oil that you added? "A little fragrance oil" doesn't tell me much.
