When using coconut milk as a replacement for the water used in the lye solutions, should it be frozen first so as to eliminate the possibility of scorching?

I suppose it is a 1:1 replacement for water?

Thanks!

I would either freeze it or use minimum water required in the recipe to dissolve the lye, then after the lye has cooled off some, add the coconut milk as the rest of the liquid.

I have a question about CP soap with Coconut Milk.

I've soaped with canned coconut milk before and it has turned out great...I dissolve my lye in the minimum amount of water and add my coconut milk to my oils. However....I just got my hands on some Coconut Milk Powder (I plan to mix 1:1 ratio of powder to water to make the milk) and they said their coconut milk is about 65% coconut oil. Should I adjust my soap recipe, as it already has 30% coconut oil in it? I heard that if a recipe has over 30% that it can be drying to the skin. I've always soaped with a 7% superfat...no issues with spoiling, softness or DOS.

Has anyone just added the powder to their soap at trace? Or does it need to be dissolved first?

Coconut milk powder is not added to the lye calc. You can either add it to your oils and stick blend, or make a slurry and add it at a light trace.

Yes, I know that coconut milk is not found on a lye calc....but the company said their coconut milk is comprised of 65% coconut oil (since coconut milk isn't truly a "milk"). I hadn't run into a problem using canned coconut milk but was told canned coconut milk contains less coconut oil. I just didn't know with the new coconut milk being 65% coconut oil if I should adjust my base oil recipe to, say, 25-28% coconut oil instead of 30% since I read that recipes with over 30% coconut oil can be drying.

Thank you <3

I would leave the recipe the same. I superfat at 7% and use coconut milk in some of my recipes without adjustments and the soap comes out fine.
