Teach Soap

Am I right in assuming in hot process soap after the cook there is no active Lye? That being the case can I superfat at 2% (does this safeguard the possibility of it being Lye heavy?) and then add the rest say 5% after the cook to ensure those fats and oils remain in the soap?
Is that the benefit of making Hot Process that you can really dictate what oils the Lye doesn't take?

Yes to all of the above! It's also great for fragrances that don't hold up in CP because of the lye or FO's that cause problems with acceleration or seizing.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Does hot process produce as nice of a bar as cold process? Can you do swirls, or is the soap too thick for that?

Thank you for replying, isn't it a pity that it isn't fluid like CP, although I guess you could do a mica swirl on the top, wonder if you could put a CP embeds inside the loaf, and perhaps if softer oils were used it would be less claggy and smoother?

I know people do water discounts, can you increase the water amount to make it more fluid in HP, or wouldn't that make any difference?

Hot process is the only process i use! Ive done CP once and it was pretty cool but i have a terribly small amount of patience! I get so excited making soap so i just cant wait! I actually superfat at 8%. People can say im wasting oils and butters but it makes a FINE bar of soap and lotion afterward isnt necessary. I can do swirl type designs but it isnt as controlled as CP so you just hope it works out and it ALWAYS looks cool. Ive even done embeds and it worked pretty well.
