The first time I had a batch of soap rice, I didn't realise it until it was in the mould - it had seized and I was rushing to jam it in there, and then saw the little grains. THIS time, I saw it happening almost the minute I started to mix the lye and oils. I had already added the fo so I'm assuming this was the problem. My question is, what do you do when you see this happening? Keep mixing? Bail out? Melt it down again right away? I dumped my blender in favour of a whisk immediately, optimistically split the batch, added colour and shoved it in a mould - I can't tell yet whether it will be okay or not...... Is there something I could have done to save it?

Hot process it is the best way. When soap seizes and you glop it into your mold, you could end up with lye pockets.

It actually doesn't look too bad - I've just cut it. The colours are kind of cloudy....... But it doesn't appear to have any pockets in it, looks solids right through. It certainly didn't look right while I was mixing it. I tried rebatching the last one that riced and had to throw it out in the end - it stayed soft and spongy and looked just awful!

I wish I could send you a pic Irena but every time I try I get a message that the photo is too big and I can't resize - could be because I use an ipad. If anyone knows how to resize I'd love to hear about it!

It's best to upload your pic to a site like photobucket. You can get a free account and you can easily upload to other websites from the photobucket site.
