Teach Soap

So I watch a few different soapers on YouTube and read this blog. All I hear about is how certain fragrances are just the best thing ever! Oh Black Raspberry Vanilla this and Angel Heart that and Alien everything! Just to name a few.

So I decided when I did my usual Rustic Escentuals sample order I included in my cart Angel Heart and Black Raspberry Vanilla.

My package came today! I opened the box... Sorted my scents... Opened each bottle... And!

YUCK! I absolutely hate Angel Heart! I was so offended I nearly threw it out the window!
But moving along to Black Raspberry Vanilla I could barely smell anything and my Blackberry Sage sample was much better by comparison to me

Is my nose broken? Or do I really have that different of taste? My boyfriend did point out that I am the youngest soap maker he knows so my likelihood of appreciating a perfume scent or most of the best sellers would be unlikely

I guess I see his point. I never was a perfume girl. Any advice on a scent that won't make me cry?

I know what you mean, and I am probably younger then you! I just got a package from NG and I was just gagging some of theme smelled so bad, + most purfumy scents are awful to my nose and are "mom perfume" but i do love BB's blackberry vanilla so maybe its a brand thing

Al lot depends on the supplier. I use BRV from NG, and it is quite strong and sells well.

Supplier can make a difference, but a lot just depends on your nose. It's not really an age thing (although tastes can change with age, of course) it's just that different things smell differently to different people. I was so disappointed when I first tried Energy and absolutely hated it. I tend to keep an eye on the way different people talk about different fragrances, and have a little mental list of people whose likes are similar to mine and people's whose likes are way way off.

I agree with Paspenka. I am older and I find most well known dupes like the ones from B&B Works sickly sweet, or acrid or not smelling very good. Just because one vendor sells BRV, doesn't mean that another vendor with the same fragrance will be the same. It is best if you can purchase samples or sample packs to see if it's a scent that you like. Some fragrances don't smell good out of the bottle or seem faint, but they really come alive and bloom once soaped. So don't judge how the scent smells straight out of the bottle.
