Teach Soap

At some point, someone always comes along who asks for organic/pure olive soap. I have a big bottle of organic EVO that I was considering using to make a batch of Castile soap. Do you think its worth it as far as sales? Its been a few years since I've made soap for sales.

Also, if I use sodium lactate should I add that to the labeling? Or since I'm doing a soap for purists, maybe I shouldn't use the SL at all...

I make castile and cure it for 8 months. It doesn't sell out as fast, but that's ok.

I made one loaf of Castile back in the fall to sell this year. I had 10 or 11 bars, and now I have 2 left. I have only had a couple people ask about all natural or pure soap, and I point them to the couple bars of unscented I have, my Rosemary soap, and my Castile Soap. All but one decided not to go with the all natural and got soap with a synthetic fragrance, lol. They usually want the synthetic fragrances that are unavailable in a pure form, and the EO's don't seem to stay as fragrant as the synthetic mixes.

I make castile as well, but it doesn't sell worth a darn. People come up at the markets and ask for natural and pure, etc.. and I point out the ones that seem to qualify, they chat on and on about how they are allergic to chemicals, blah blah blah,...then they buy stuff with FOs.
I always say - "ummm..the one you picked out has a synthetic fragrance oil, are you ok with that?" Funny, their allergy just seems to disappear when they find something they like.

I think the allergy line (with of course, a few honest exceptions) is just an excuse to not buy something. Then the allergy disappears and they buy a couple of bars

oh, yeah - one of my favorite lines that I love to use - this happens a lot at the markets:

They fall in love with something with an FO, that is OBVIOUSLY an FO, then they ask if it is made with essential oils. I always reply
'well - there IS no "essential oil of raspberry cheesecake!"'

They usually realize how silly their question sounded, and then they buy whatever they simply like the smell of!

My sister is one of those who really, truly needs a pure, unscented castile.
But again, I've had enough people ask, I figure 8 or 9 bars sitting around won't hurt. When people ask about the FOs I tell them the fragrances are developed pretty much like cologne or perfume...synthetics sometimes mixed with essential oils. I have to admit, I did a castile batch with Berry Wine FO (BB) about 6 years ago, there's a slice sitting in my shower that my mother hauled out. Its still lovely and lathers up so well. There's even faint fragrance remaining!
