LOL....I used craft glitter when I first started messing around, just for fun...just experimenting. I use it when I paint stuff for my daughters room, so I had some just laying around. I also had 80 mm Christmas bulbs (talk about a HUGE bath bomb lol) I hadn't even entertained selling any of that stuff, it was just practice. Now I only use super finely milled cosmetic glitter that I get from a soap company, but I also absolutely LOVE the edible cake lusters! SUPER shimmery water, no shimmer on the skin! I have 3 porcelain sinks in my house, and my husband always laughs, because I'll leave water in them for a couple days, just to see what happens....so far, so good!! I'm being really careful not to get ahead of myself. If nothing else, I no longer have to buy bath products!!! Thank you all so much for all the info...the FDA link was really helpful, and when I went onto Etsy, I saw ALOT of rules being broken! Some of the stuff you posted, Olivia....whoa. Most definitely don't want to fall into that category! Most importantly, I started doing this for FUN....and I'm still having a lot of that, so I guess I'm on the right track!

I no longer look for B&B products on etsy. It seems most of the sellers are doing this as a hobby and are not aware of the rules and regs or simply ignore them.

That's what it seemed like Soapbuddy!! SEEMED isn't the correct term, that's what it WAS. It was a HUGE eye opener. Foolishly, that's why I bought gel colorant in the first place, the diy on Youtube, stuff like that. I'm learning more and more everyday, and I'm thankful that there are people on here that will tell me the in's and out's of this business. Jeez, the last thing I need is a lawsuit.

I do have to say that Etsy is getting better about a decreasing the sellers who are making medical claims. I remember 2 years ago or so when I'd do a search there for "Eczema Soap" and there would be 100's & 100's of pages. But I just did a search now and there's less than 40 pages and most of those sellers have taken the medical claims out of their descriptions but are now hiding it in their tags. Sadly I did recognize a few of the sellers from here

Ok...so if I would list a chamomile/lavender based product and say it's been known to help one relax, that it has calming properties etc....that would be a medical claim?

So bubble bars and bath truffles or bombs aren't considered to be cleansing? If that's the case, I have ALOT more research to do. I don't want them to just be pretty treats for the tub, I want them to actually DO something, and I thought that's what I was doing...

@missjslick - Wait, what did I post? What category do you not want to fall into?

@soapbuddy & Genny - Now I am confused... I thought you could NEVER put medical claims or possible benefits of your product on the label, but here Genny says you can say your product is moisturizing/relaxing. Whaaaaaat? I did see that soap has entirely different labeling laws than drugs or cosmetics. Interesting.

According to the FDA as soon you say they're moisturizing or helps relax for soap it then becomes a cosmetic. When you don't make any claims at all for soap, it's just soap. For any other products such as lotions, balm, bath truffles all those are considered a cosmetic.

Not if they're medical claims. That's the line.

Soap that claims to cleanse and nothing more = soap.

Soap that claims to cleanse and moisturize, relax, make you smell nice, etc., as well as nearly all other B&B products = cosmetic.

Soap that claims to cleanse and cure eczema, cure acne, treat anxiety, etc., or any other B&B product that makes those claims = drug.
