I was on pinterest today and say this pin (this is actually the web site) not only are they useing crayons as a colorant but THEY ARE PUTTING IT ON THEIR LIPS! they also are adding glitter and who knows if it is even skin safe because the crayons sure aren't! This is the bad thing about all these DIYs some of them are soo unsafe and since it is online on a pretty website people think its ok

PS I was looking around and they sell stuff to (luckly not their DIY creations )

The main ingredient in crayons is paraffin. One of the main ingredients in some commercial lipsticks is... paraffin. Does this make DIY crayon lipstick okay, or commercial lipstick scary? I guess that's your decision. It certainly makes you stop and think.

I had never heard of crayon lipstick before, myself.

I would be more worried about the glitter. Craft store bought glitter is NOT cosmetic grade. I no longer look. It just raises my blood pressure. There are so many of these DIY sites and blogs that are scary and plain dangerous.

I looked at the type of glitter they used, there was an ad for it on their site. It is cosmetic grade, being sold for eye make up or something. I can see some teens maybe liking this type of thing because of the funky colors you can make, but personally, I can't imagine rubbing crayon on my lips. They have a certain smell to them, i don't think I could get past it.

Ages ago I saw a program on how crayons are made, and IIRC, they were pretty specific about them being non-toxic, since kids play with them and, yeah, eat them sometimes. So while the taste/smell doesn't appeal to me, and I would think the parafin would add some unpleasant drag to the lipstick, not gonna kill you.

I was more disturbed about them melting everything in a spoon over a candle. One little spill & you could have a heck of a fire.

This reminds me of last summer when my then 10 yr old daughter went to her friends house & the other girl decided they should make lipstick & facial masks. The mom helped them find recipes & for lipstick it was vaseline, old lipstick and candle wax from candles lying around the house. For the facial mask they mixed mashed strawberries & lemon juice, which the mom had them do this outside so they wouldn't get the bathroom all messy. My 10 yr old came home later with a huge rash on her face from the strawberries & burns from the lemon juice.
