Teach Soap

What would you guys say was a good scale for CP soap making? I'd like something that can measure in both ounces and grams, so I can be as accurate as possible. What do ya'll use, or what would you choose for a beginner? I don't have just tons to spend on this, but I don't want to skimp on a good scale either, as I know accuracy in lye and oil weights is important.

I just got mine at bed bath & beyond i don't remember how much it was but probably $30 MAX. It does both onces and grams and for ounces it goes up form 0.05 oz increments

I just got the cheap, made-in-China, Mainstays scale at Walmart for about $12.00. Measures in ounces or grams up to 11 pounds, and can go to three decimal points. Also includes zero/tare function. It's doing fine so far. Having said that, I have no doubt just cursed my scale into an early death.

I have an inexpensive (can't remember how much, it's been that long) Escali kitchen scale that I got way back when I first started soaping, and it's still going strong.....but, when it does come time to replace it, I'm going to get one that has an adapter, like the KD7000 that Irena mentioned, because it can be a VERY frustrating experience to have your batteries die, when you don't have any replacements and are in the middle of a batch. Ask me how I know this! So that is one feature I would look for in my next scale. HTH

I Got my first scale at Walmart but I ruined in in one day so I took it back and got another , Well I ruined that the next day , Then as I was watching a video on utube on soap making I noticed the women had hers covered in plastic .
I also noticed she covered her backsplash in plastic . I now have a moderate priced one that works and is covered in plastic .
I have a separate downstairs kitchen I use for soaping . The floors have cardboard on them and I replace them every three days .

I started off with a kitchen scale I'd bought from Costco. I found that when I weighed something, removed it from the platform and then replaced it, the scale would register a different weight. I now have Bramble Berry's scale. It seems reliable and registers consistent weights. I wish it was accurate to .01 oz rather than just .05 oz, but if it's accurate to .05 oz it's better than my previous kitchen scale, which could vary by .3 oz in subsequent weighings.
