Bath Bomb-
1 heaping cup Baking soda
1/2 cup epsom
3 tbs Kaolin clay
1/2 cup Cream of tartar
1/2 citric acid

Butters, melted
2 tbs mango
1 tbs shea
Fragrance and essential and coloring

(These bombs were a bit oily, some loved, some said less moisture, not to mention the oil slick on the water) :|

You can take out your shea, that would make it less oily.
You could add polysorbate 80, that will help make them less oily.

What's the cream of tartar for?

Ugh...I wish I knew....I (with some guilt) looked at the ingredients on my Lush bombs...its in there...and guess what? I've been using Americolor, something like Wilton, gel colorants...thank GOD I havent filled anyones order yet!!! I test these on myself, but as we know, everyones skin is different...I would HATE a horrible reaction, like this poor kid that got dyed blue :( Thanks for the tip on the polysorbate, I ordered some, but wouldnt know how much to put in...and I'd still LOVE to make some of them float!!! I had one (made with a diy cornstarch recipe from youtube) float and spin for a few seconds and got super excited...but that was after drying for 2 days, not one...and I'd hate for us gals to get a yeast infection (blech!) Not to mention it was like pulling teeth getting them outta my stainless steel molds....*facepalm* :?

I would wait til you get your recipe perfected before you sell. I would hold off on any orders for now.

Thank you Irena!!! I have that "itch", I'm sure you know how I feel...I wanna work night and day perfecting, but I have a 19 month old babydoll that I'd much rather spend my time with (not that I could get away if I wanted to lol) About the colorants, if you don't mind...what's the best? Should I spring for the labcolors from BB or....? I'm REALLY not comfortable now using the ones I have.....thanks a bunch! :)

I love BB's LaBomb colorants which are made for Bath bombs, they are similar to labcolors, but not made with water I think, they sell it on the lab color page tho

You do nat have to use a lot of the labomb colorants so that little bottle goes a long way, and no my fizzies do not usually float.
PS if you get the labomb kit you will also need pipettes, it makes using them 1000x easier to add to the bath bomb mixture

Thanks Rosie...I ended up springing for the BB LaBomb colors, the full set will be here tomorrow, I AM, however, worried still that they will be too light...some of my bombs are really pigmented and most DEFINITELY I want them to color the water....I'm curious what size "drops" they're talking about in the article about how to use them...I have 3 ml pipettes, and it looks like if I use those, I'll be out of that colorant in NO time! If you have any suggestions or input i'd really appreciate it! Thanks a bunch!! :)

LaBombe colorants are actually pretty concentrated I do believe, so those little bottles may go farther than you think!

The size of the drops is a little confusing. Different pipettes result in different sized drops. If you hold the pipette straight up in the air, the drops will be larger than if you hold the pipette on it's side, at a 90 degree angle, if you get what I mean. I usually hold my pipette at a 45 degree angle, between straight up and on it's side, to get MEDIUM sized drops. If you want to be SUPER accurate, be consistent in the way you hold your pipette and you'll get roughly the same size drops each time. Otherwise, it doesn't matter too much, things might vary a little from one person's recipe to another's. It is hard to always know exactly what a recipe or instructions are calling for. The best thing is to experiment until you find what works for you. That's the freedom of making your own soap and cosmetics!!

How much colorant were you planning on using in your bombes?

Hmmmmmmmmm.....I want to color the water, I have a sparkly pink bomb that I'd like to be bright, especially. This one also has finely milled glitter in it, I'm STILL trying to figure out how to make the glitter float around in the water without using an emulsifier, and sucking all the moisture from it! I'm definitely wanting to color the water the color of the bomb :)

If you use a lot of the Bath Bomb colorants, then it will color the water and it can also stain the tub. Unless your finely milled glitter is cosmetic grade it is not safe to use in a bath bomb.
