Teach Soap

How do you keep up with your inventory so you don't find yourself., like I just did, ordering 3 different times for something or other?

I could have saved at least $30 I don't want to know how much, in shipping if I was better able to calculate what was on hand or maybe I don't know.

I don't plan on making soap like people plan on making dinner and do all the grocery shopping at once so I know I fall short there.
what other method do you use to know when to order stuff?

3 times in less then 10 days is too much. I know poor planning so i'm asking how do you do it?

I use an accounting ledger myself. Others use the inventory tracking feature of SoapMaker, but I find it clunky.

it can be. I don't have a pc any more so, I still miss my soap maker software:(

You can make a very quick and easy inventory spread sheet in excel type programs. Open office is a free program (basically free microsoft office) and has a Mac version . The spreadsheet program works the same as excel. There are many tutorials online for making an inventory tracking spreadsheet is a decent one for Excel 2007, which is relatively the same as OO.

Open office for PC located .

I didn't know Open Office had one for Mac. !!! yea. Thank you so much. I liked that program when I had a pc. Mac don't even come with Word. Have to buy Office and it's more then I would ever use of that program.

Now and then I do just want a word document. I have that other one of apple but don't like it.



I'm not much of a spread sheeter either. But maybe I guess I will have to become one. aggggg.

I sometimes do like i"m cooking, oh oh, getting low on this, write it on the board. Then when I go shopping I get it. Haven't been doing well with that and my soaping addiction. Well, to be honest my addiction has flared up since I bought Anne-Maries new book.. I was in hibernation there for awhile..

Generally when I find I have 1/3 of a container left (be it oils, fragrance, additives, lotion supplies etc) I will make a note to order more asap. If it is one of my main ingrediets I make that note at 1/2 container and be sure it is ordered by 1/4 container. If it is an ingredient that I'm not using often I will finish it off and set the empty bottle/beg in a reserved spot on my shelf. When I go to place an order somewhere I go through those containers and re-order what I need/want from the specific vendor. I also keep notes on local suppliers where I can grab ingredients if I run out by accident and need more asap.
