HI,
I am new here so if I am not posting this like I am supposed to please let me know.

I made the Pretty in Pink salt bars from BB I cut the recipe in half ran it through the soap calculator a few times
like I always do all my numbers came out fine I cut my bars let them cure for 6 weeks my sister couldn't wait to come steal one LOL She messaged me the next day and said they did not lather even a tiny bit!
She said they made her skin feel soft and silky after toweling off and still loved the soap but wished it would lather
so I tried one that night and she was right not ONE bubble!
I did change my super fat level to 5% and used less salt than it called for even cut in half would that effect the lather?
I had made these for an upcoming craft fair but I am not so sure I want to sell soap with no lather.
Oh I also had a friend that used one and she said she loved the silky feel of her skin too after using it but I am one of those if it don't lather I'm not clean people. Lol

I would only be able to copy and paste the recipe from BB but mine was cut in half.
I cannot find the print out I used but it is the same recipe from BB pretty in pink salt bars.

Let me go check : )

OK this is the recipe from BB.
•7 lbs. Coconut Oil
•7 lbs. Olive Oil
•7 lbs. Palm Oil
•1 lb. Shea Butter
•2 lbs. Lye
•2 oz. Lemongrass Essential Oil
•2 oz. Eucalyptus Essential Oil
•2 lbs. Small Pink Himalayan Salt
•10 ml Fuchsia LabColor
•1 oz. Super Pearly White Mica

I cut this in half but used orange lab color and my main squeeze FO.
And like I said when I ran it back through soapcal I super fatted at 5% and used a little less salt.

So Sorry that's my bad I copied and pasted from the page that list what comes in the kit rather than the actual recipe.
Sorry about that I was being hounded by a hungry husband waiting on dinner Lol
But yes that is the correct recipe you have posted if I had clicked on the link to take me one more page over I would have pasted the right thing Sorry

LOL Yeah when I came back and checked the replies and saw what I posted I even thought for a second 7lbs!!?? WTH

Well I hope yours works out better than mine I was reading comments last night on the soap queen blog and it looks like maybe my bars aren't lathering because I super fatted at 5%.
Which Stinks because I made some blue and white salt bars in rain scent that have just finished curing that Im sure wont lather either if that's the case because I did those at 5% also but I calculated the recipe with different oils.

5% superfat shouldn't cause a lack of lather. A lot of us do 7-8% in all of our batches. Salt however will reduce lather. My salt bars have a creamy lather, rather than a bubbly lather like a regular soap bar. The recipe I use for salt bars is 100% coconut oil with a 20% superfat.

I doubt any of us here would recommend anything less than 5% superfat, under that and you significantly increase your chances of a lye heavy batch. Especially when doing small batches measured in ounces (we recommend grams for smaller batches).

I have never went lower than 5% super fat I stay around 5 and 6%

What confuses me I guess is I am reading through the blog on soap queen and at one point
there is a post that says Use 5% super fat and then another one that says she super fatted at 3% and kept it low to help with the decrease in lather at a higher super fat I assumed from the salt?

Most salt bar makers use between 10 and 20% superfat in their bars. What percentage did you use? Lovely looking soap and pink salt is so beautiful!

Probably closer to 5%-6% and it has a lovely creamy lather. =)

Hi,
I would love to try this recipe because they look so gorgeous! I plugged it into soapcalc and noticed that the SF was only 3%. Is this correct? It seems awful low when quite a few people use up to 20% in salt bars. I’ll wait to hear from you before attempting this. Thanks!

It is pretty low. I kept it low to hopefully help with the decrease in lather that happens with a slightly higher super fat but I totally understand your concern. I’d increase the Shea to 4.0 ounces in the recipe and that will bring you up to a good 5% =) Let me know how your batch turns out. =)

In my mind salt decreases lather anyway so I already expected a low lather or maybe just a creamy lather without bubbles but I don't even have a creamy lather.
On the plus side I had been wanting to make a solid scrub of some sort for me feet and these are great on my feet So I guess they aren't a total loss LOL

Added extra salt will definitely decrease lather. You should not superfat at only 2%. The SAP range of soapmaking oils is only a range. The actual number varies slightly from season to season. For example, olive oil has a SAP range of 184-196. This means that one time your soap could come out ok and next time that same recipe could be lye heavy. I always superfat at 7-8% as anything lower my skin finds drying. Superfatting at 7-8% also assures that your soap won't be lye heavy and will be gentle and mild.
