I am a happy camper! Here's my third batch of soap and I'm absolutely delighted with it. Took an age to lay down all the colors, but it came out exactly the way I envisioned it would. Wildflower season here in my part of Texas is coming up in April, which is the inspiration for this soap. We mostly have lupines called Bluebonnets along with Indian Paintbrush and Evening Primrose rounding off the top three. Yes, I am ready for spring. If I can just find a way to keep my husband from coon-fingering my little soaplings to death, I'll call this batch a success.

Very cool. It does remind me of a field of wildflowers! I enjoy reading your posts, you write so well with a sense of humor.

Oh, and I saw your 'amateurish' photo of your Mardi Gras soap, as you called it, and I thought it was a rather professional looking photograph myself; very creative!

I really was surprised when I popped the soap out of the mold. It was one of those things that could easily have gone the wrong way. What surprised me was how much time I had to play with this recipe. It was a good 45 minutes from mixing to squirting and finally to the oven. One lesson learned was that I will NEVER use squirt bottles again. A baggie with a corner cut off is much easier to fill, squirt, and doesn't waste as much soap. By the end of the process, it was getting difficult to squirt the soap out of the bottles and I had to snip the tips off to make the holes bigger. Cleanup was a breeze: File 13 for the bottles. I had lower arms and hands like PopEye the next morning. (Wow. I just severely dated myself, didn't I?)

Fragrance was lavender EO, Ylang-ylang EO and a touch of Champagne FO. Just what I had on hand and the lavender was the closest I could find to bluebonnet fragrance. They're mild unless you're standing in a huge field of them.
