So I have been making cp for about 5 years now. I love my soap and so does everyone that tries it except my husband. He says it leaves him too greasy. Well since we have moved, I put a bar of 100% coconut oil soap in the shower for him to try. Well, we have soft water and he said it was so greasy he had a hard time washing his feet because he was about to slip. So my question is would adding a bit of clay to a 100% co bar make it less greasy? Yes, I think he is crazy since I use a bar that is olive, coconut, avocado and cocoa butter and I don't feel greasy at all and never have felt like I was going to slip. But if it will get him to stop buying Irish Spring, I will try anything. Suggestions? I have kaolin clay and I have green clay. TIA.

How much are you superfatting? I find soft water makes the soap on the skin more "slippery".

I superfat my regular recipe 7% but the last 3 batches I have made since moving have been at 5% but they are still curing so I haven't had a chance to try them out yet. The soap he tried was superfatted at 20% since it was 100% coconut oil. Should I try reducing the superfat?

Try a small batch for him with a lower superfat, but I think it's the soft water that's doing it.

Is there anything I can add to the bar to counteract the water softness?

Would dissolving some epsom salt in the lye water help? It is magnesium after all and soft water is soft because it doesn't have the extra minerals in it. He says the problem is not my soap, it's the water. Basically he wants it to rinse off easier. I am just stumped. Would the tetrasodium edta help with that?

Nevermind, I think I found the answer. It will precipitate forming a white powder that is insoluble (is that the right chemistry word?) Ugh, why does he have to be so complicated?!

Are you sure he's really feeling "grease?" Most commercial "soaps" have the glycerine stripped so they leave you feeling "squeaky clean" and CP soap leaves a slippery feeling that might feel greasy or like you need to rinse it off. In reality, the squeaky clean soaps are stripping oil from the skin.

Anyhow, you could try adding clays and see if that helps. I was going to suggest colloidal oatmeal but that would probably also leave a slippery feel.

Belinda you are exactly right. He likes the "squeaky clean" feel. He hates it when he can't get that streaking sound when he rubs his hand down his arm. I know, he's odd, but it's what he likes and I can't get him to change his mind. Even after 5 years of having him try different bars. I don't know, I may just give up on him and let him use his store bought crap. :(

I have a DH like this as well, but his is the liquid body wash "made for men". I have learnt to leave him be. He does use my soap to wash his hands. Then when he comes to me and tells me (as he does every winter) that his skin is so itchy, I just smile and gently say that if he was to use a good handmade soap instead of detergent to wash with he would not have that concern. Oh well, we can only do so much.

Zest-fully-clean! LOL  We used to use that stuff. Pretty sure my entire family uses my soap now though. I'm super lucky I guess! My husband ONLY uses my soap, no store bought crap. He uses ~15lbs of dragon's blood soap a year LOL Starting to think he must be snacking on it too, no idea how he uses so much soap!
