Teach Soap

How do you decide where to start when it comes to preservative? They give such a range, I have read some people use the least possible and some use the most to be extra careful but there has to be a good middle of the road. Is it as simple as more preservative when it comes to whats in your lotion ect, like preserving GM or things like that and if its straight up simple oils than the lower end of suggested range should be fine??? Think I am making something simple...totally not:)

I use the max %. But I add wheat protein and several others additives to my lotions etc, and I feel they need the extra preservative!

Anyone know what these big companies are using to preserve? The seem to have it down:)

With such a tiny amount, does it still need to be calculated into the recipe? Or could I just calculate what I need from my recipe?

Using the max % shouldn't be an issue. Its calculated as the max % that is needed to preserve the system, but also be safe for the skin.

I use the max for my sugar scrubs due to the possibility of water getting in them, but use a lesser amount for lotions that are in malibu tubes or pump bottles.
