So I now have 25 one ounce samples of various fragrances from RE (I swear it didn't seem like much when it was broken into three orders!) and I love most of them aside from the occasional meh to ugh scent. But I've been having this issue with BrambleBerry lately and I'm wondering if I'm crazy or something.

I bought the pumpkin pie candle and soap scent from BB to make wax tarts. I smelled it quickly and it was okay. I smelled it the next day and it was awful! It smelled like harsh chemicals and I couldn't handle it so everything I made with it is either in a box or with my mom. My mom doesn't smell chemicals at all! She thinks it smells dead on! Am I going crazy? I had the same problem with Tropical Vacation and Island Coconut from BB. I love it and then I can't stomach it! :? :(

It happens. I bet if you used it in soap and washed with it, the real scent would come back to you.

That specific one smells horrid OOB, but awesome once in soap or candles! It seems like most "soap and candle" fragrances have a bad chemical smell IMHO, I believe it has to do with the candle part of the equation, as a lot of candle only fragrances have that same smell.

Its really best to test fragrances in product first, then evaluate if you like it or not second. A LOT of fragrances smell completely different in products than in bottles.

I burned one of my pumpkin wax tarts the other day. Ever smell hardcore cleaner on fire? It was horrible! I thought it would be okay but it's the worst thing ever!

My mom still likes them but even she doesn't want them to burn. She keeps them as a purse freshener.

That's really weird! I used that FO in a 50/50 FO/soy wax tart and didn't get a chemical smell even at that concentration (DO NOT TRY 50/50 WAX MELTS UNLESS YOU HAVE LOTS OF EXPERIENCE!!!!!)

They can be extremely flammable, aerosolize fragrance into the air (causes breathing issues) and waste a tonne of money. I recommend sticking to 1-2oz per pound of wax. I've been making tarts for over 20 years and have only started messing with the 50/50s.

Hi Heather, sorry this took sooo long to get back to you.... We went on VACATION! I had the chance to read 5 books in 12 days.... YEH! I was actually hoping my DH would return to his candle making... learn something new. That was what triggered me into looking at soap making to start with. But he is holding back, maybe he needs to retire once again? I like using them as gifts (and of course some for us). So a very heartfelt thankyou but I think I will continue to bug my DH. I am trying to catch up on some posts and noticed you helped get some new started in soaping.... what a gracious soul you are! Hugs, Susie
