Irena, looks nice. Let us know how you like the mold. Did you buy only one (I know your soap volume is so much more than mine)?

Thank you! The soaps popped right out after an hour! Here is a pic of them out of the mold.

Tested 2 FO's today. The blue and white soap is Woodland Elves and the brown and creamy soap is Chai Tea. They are currently gelling and so we will see what the end results are. I know Chai Tea discolors so I added a bit of super pearly white mica to combate it just a tad. The other half of the batter I added Teddy Bear brown mica. It smells so good!

My first soaps! I've been lurking here for a bit while I read up on soapmaking (I actually made it a point to read this entire thread before I got around to making anything) and now I finally have something to contribute.

Image

I made both this and the next batch from Brambleberry's Beginner Cold Process kit. This was my first batch, I didn't insulate it enough so it didn't gel, and the oddly-sized mold that came with the kit resulted in lots of oddly-sized little bars, but it's a pretty good first go! I skipped color but couldn't resist scenting it with the Cranberry Fig that came in the kit.

Image

This is my disaster batch. First I had to modify the recipe, because the kit didn't come with enough olive oil for two batches with the recipe it included (I wasn't going to try my own recipes until I had a few more batches under my belt). Then I soaped too hot (I was hand mixing, so I wanted to speed trace up a little, but I overdid it. I have a stick blender now!) and didn't mix long enough so it separated in the mold. So I rebatched/hot processed it, and while I was preparing the mold ran out of tape and had to scramble to find a good-sized tupperware I could substitute in for the cardboard box. That was even wonkier than the cardboard mold, so I wound up with four large bars and lots of little odd pieces.

I'm still pretty happy with it, though. Scented with BB's Pumpkin Pie, which at first discolored to a lovely roasted-pumpkin orange and is settling into a nice tan roughly the color of actual pumpkin pie.

Welcome to the forum. Your soaps look great. You sure have learned a lot already being these are your first batches. I went about a year before trying rebatch. Not that I did not ruin a soap... I just put it aside. It is a great hobby and there are many avenues to explore. Keep up the good work, soon you will be posting a lot more for us to admire!

Welcome and congrats on your batches Paspenka. The more you make, the easier it will get.

Fantastic soaps. I LOVE the fresh snow, the colors blend so very well. You also did a great job on the photo of them!

Thanks, Susie and Irena!

Rosie, that soap is beautiful. I love the Fresh Snow, makes me a little homesick for Vermont (the scenery, at least, if not the temperatures!).

Gelled versus ungelled soap. This is my oatmeal soap which I couldn't stop from gelling. The bar to the right is from the same batch. Since the surface area is smaller, that soap did not gel.
