I bought some soap base at Michaels, to experiment with the process. I figured if I messed up, it wouldn't matter. But the stuff is really...awful. It hardens almost the second you remove it from the heat source. The soap itself is drying. Even with scent added, I'm not too keen on the smell. If I'm going to do more M&P, I will buy online from a place with a good rep and sell bases that are easier to work with.
Meanwhile, I have most of a ten pound bucket of soap base (Yeah, I know, way too much to test with, but I had a coupon for half off, so it actually compares to prices online once you figure in shipping costs.) and I don't want to just throw it away. I also don't want to use it to make inserts for other soaps or anything that would mean a human being was using it directly on their skin (because even adding a little shea butter, this stuff was super drying too.) Is there any way to "recycle" it into something useful? Like laundry soap or dish washing soap? Something that will use it up? I could wait until there is a craft swap and bring it to that, but to be honest, I'd rather find a way to use it myself, because I don't want to inflict this nasty base upon other unsuspecting folks.
