Teach Soap

Hi ladies,
So happy to be able to connect with experts. My name is jennie and I live in Richmond Virginia. I plan to retire
in a couple of years, and want to be able to do something that I will enjoy doing and maybe generate some income. soap making has been something I have been interested in but I was one of those students that didn't pay attention in math class, so that has kept me from really getting into this wonderful craft. I have been attempting to make cold process soap. my first batch was a no go, I don't know what happened to the scent! the second batch has ok scent but the corners are chalky. I know I will get the expert information I need. I am truly excited to have found teach soap.com and the soap queen.

Wow, I'm a newbie and I live right outside of Richmond! Have you found any decent local places to buy soapmaking supplies? I'm so new to all of this, I haven't wanted to order anything off the 'net yet, because I want to make sure this will be a hobby I stick to. So far, the only places I've found who've sold any type of soap making supplies are Michael's and Hobby Lobby and I am not impressed with either of them. I did find a place that sells essential oils, but they don't have samples that I can smell to see what I think before I buy them.

Welcome! I live outside of richmond too! if you want to sniff essential oils you can go to wholefoods they aren't the best but they give you an idea of the scent. you can buy oils there too if you are in a pinch, but they are so overpriced. The Richmond area has no good places that i have found yet, so i do buy online

The best place to buy products at a reasonable price is online. I've tried Michaels and you are right not impressed. I
have found oils with samples to test at Ellwood Thompson in carry town, and also the vitamin shop. The portions
are small and the price high.

I forgot about Ellwood. They were my Lush substitute, before I started making my own bath bombs. I'll have to make a trip again. I also forgot about Whole foods, but that's probably because Whole Foods irritates me. Ellwood has a more "casual" feel to it. I'm kind of surprised there isn't a soap supply shop on Carry st, it's the sort-of business that would fit in with it.
