Teach Soap

I am new to lotions and have only tried a few batches so far however I am interested in trying oatmeal in a batch for my winter dry skin. My thought was to cheesecloth and drop oatmeal into the water for heat and hold, my concern being preserving it. I have been using Optiphen Plus without any trouble but remember reading someplace that some things are hard to preserve(which is why my first few batches were only oils/butters). So far my lotions have worked great on my body and face which is great! I also have witch hazel to try, that I read was fantastic for the face! Thanks

That's called oatmilk! I use oatmilk in lotions myself, helps with ultra dry skin. I've not had much luck with optiphen plus, even at minimum % it gives me a horrible rash! I use phenonip instead. Haven't had any issues with oatmilk and phenonip! I also add some hydrolized wheat protein for extra oatmealy goodness. I get it ! You can also get it , but I find lotion crafter to be more expensive (for everything!).

Thanks, I just might try it. Not entirely sure I like Optiphen however its the first preservative I have worked with and I was looking for a paraben/form releaser free product as well as one with a wide variety of uses! I have found my already sensitive skin seems bothered after applying the lotion but wondered if it was simply my sensitivity!

If my Mom uses optiphen preserved lotion she gets a bright red, burning rash almost instantly! And that is at minimum %. I use maximum % phenonip and neither of us have an issue.

I would not add more then 10% of the oat milk as a part of your liquid, as anything higher is harder to preserve. I don't use Optiphen in my lotion as it makes my formula curdle.

Thanks, so to make a small batch of oat milk...how would I do that? Still have to heat and hold the water making the milk, correct?
