Teach Soap

Hi, I made a liquid soap paste. I used a 1-2 ratio of water to the paste and I thought it was going to be perfect. Smelled and looked great, however, every couple of days it starts to separate a little bit. Does this mean it needs more salt? Or more of a 1-1 ratio. This is already the second time I have tried to liquidate the paste. The first time I put in too much water for sure but I was using the ratio for when you use more of an olive oil recipe. The recipe I used does have other oils, including coconut oil. Thanks for the help. V

How long did you cook it? Sometimes liquid soap needs a longer cooking time. I cook mine in a crock pot and test with phenophtalein.

It took a really long time. I don't remember exactly how long now but it seemed like forever and I checked it with a strip which I guess is not all that accurate. When I looked up buying another kind of pH test it was a bit overwhelming and I didn't know which to get. I have used some of the soap I mixed and like I said it smells good, seems like it cleans as well as moisturizes you, it just separates after 2 days. It's maybe a tad thinner in texture than I would prefer also. V

From my understanding, if the soap separates after a few days, it is either not cooked long enough, any additives are not compatible or it's the fragrance or essential oil added.

I've personally only had it separate when it wasn't cooked long enough. I've had a batch take over 8 hours to cook!
